The sticky business of chewing gum removal

Chewing gum might seem harmless, but the mess it leaves behind is anything but. Whether it’s mashed into footpaths, stuck to outdoor furniture, or clinging to concrete, gum is an eyesore that’s hard to ignore. For councils, schools, and businesses, getting rid of gum is more than just cleaning—it’s protecting the environment, keeping spaces safe, and showing visitors you care. At Kleenit, we’ve been helping Aussie businesses tackle chewing gum removal for decades, and we’re here to explain why addressing this sticky issue matters and how it can make a real difference.   A sticky situation across the globe For something so small, chewing gum litter is a giant problem. After cigarette butts, it’s the second most common type of litter worldwide, with more than 100,000 tonnes of gum waste produced every year. And here’s the kicker—80–90% of that gum isn’t disposed of properly. In Singapore, gum litter got so bad that it was clogging up train doors and causing disruptions in train services, leading to the country’s government famously banning gum altogether in 1992!   Why chewing gum removal helps the environment Removing gum isn’t just about making your footpaths look nicer—it’s a way to protect local ecosystems and show a commitment to sustainability. It’s not biodegradable Chewing gum is made from synthetic plastics, meaning it doesn’t break down naturally. It can remain wherever it’s been stuck for decades, contributing to pollution on streets, in waterways, and throughout ecosystems. It’s harmful to marine life When gum ends up in our oceans, marine animals can mistake it for food. They ingest it, which releases toxins that work their way up the food chain, eventually impacting us. It’s a serious environmental concern that chewing gum removal helps to address. It can be expensive to remove Cleaning up chewing gum is no small cost. For example, in preparation for the 2012 London Olympics, authorities spent months removing 300,000 pieces of gum from just three kilometres of footpath. The cost? Between 16 cents and $3 per piece, highlighting the long-term expense involved. It’s unhygienic Chewing gum isn’t just a visual nuisance—it’s unhygienic, too. Over time, old gum traps bacteria, dirt, and grime, creating a breeding ground for nastiness. We all know what it’s like to step on or touch it accidentally—yuck, that’s an unpleasant experience.   How councils can lead the charge For local councils, chewing gum removal is about more than keeping our streets clean—it’s a chance to lead by example. Clean, gum-free public spaces make people feel proud of their community and encourage them to take better care of their surroundings. By investing in gum removal, councils can showcase their commitment to sustainability in their environmental reports, proving to ratepayers that they’re serious about protecting the environment. Plus, chewing gum removal programs provide a great opportunity to educate locals on how to dispose of gum properly, which can help reduce litter over time. When councils lead the way, they inspire businesses, schools, and other organisations to do the same, creating a positive impact that benefits everyone.   The best way to remove gum from concrete Concrete surfaces and footpaths are two of the most common places for gum litter, and they’re also among the hardest to clean. Chewing gum removal from sidewalks is tricky because gum sticks tightly to porous surfaces like concrete, making DIY methods like scraping or chemicals ineffective and messy. At Kleenit, we use professional techniques to remove gum quickly, effectively, and without damaging the surface. This process works wonders for high-traffic areas like shopping centres, schools, and public footpaths. Our tools and expertise mean you’ll never have to worry about sticky leftovers or unsightly stains. Here’s how we do it: Pre-treatment We start by applying safe cleaning agents that loosen the gum for easy removal. High-pressure steam cleaning This eco-friendly method lifts and softens gum, removing even the most stubborn pieces. We use hot water for cleaning, a game-changer compared to the cold water methods most companies rely on. Hot water delivers a deeper clean, breaking down dirt, grease, and gum more efficiently and effectively. It’s faster, better for the environment, and minimises water usage—our team arrives with about 600 litres of water on board, ensuring we’re fully equipped for the job without waste. Residue-free results We don’t just remove the gum—we clean the surrounding area, leaving your footpaths looking spotless. Seal the deal with paver sealing After tackling gum removal and thoroughly cleaning your concrete, footpath or paving, we can help keep your surfaces protected for the long haul with professional paver sealing. A high-quality sealer creates a protective barrier that guards against stains from grease, oil, and everyday grime, making future clean-ups a breeze, even for stubborn gum. Sealing doesn’t just protect paving—it enhances it. We offer clear sealers for a subtle finish or coloured sealers to rejuvenate old, faded paving. This option is perfect for refreshing tired outdoor spaces without the expense of replacing the pavers. The added protection ensures your paving stays looking fresh while reducing the chance of gum or dirt clinging to the surface.   Who needs chewing gum removal services? Whether you’re a council managing public spaces or a business trying to keep your shopfront tidy, chewing gum removal can transform your property. Councils and public areas Gum-covered streets and parks send the wrong message to residents and visitors. Regular removal keeps these spaces safe, clean, and welcoming while demonstrating your commitment to caring for the environment. Schools and universities From gum stuck under desks to littered courtyards, educational institutions can use chewing gum removal to create a hygienic, professional environment. Retailers and hospitality businesses First impressions count. Gum-covered footpaths outside shops, cafés, or restaurants can deter customers. A gum-free entrance shows you care about your business and your guests.   Ready to tackle the sticky stuff? At Kleenit, we’re experts in removing gum from footpaths, concrete, and more. How to remove graffiti from your commercial property and avoid vandalism in the future

You arrive at work, only to find that it’s happened again—vandals have targeted your property, leaving their graffiti behind. Your once-pristine commercial building now looks dirty, unkempt, and uninviting. Unfortunately, graffiti vandalism is more than just an annoyance. It can harm your business's image, reduce property value, and lead to costly repairs. We understand how frustrating it is to constantly fight graffiti. The good news? There are ways to remove it quickly and prevent it from happening again. By using anti-graffiti coatings, anti-graffiti paint, and prompt graffiti removal, you can protect your property and keep it looking professional. In this guide, we’ll explore practical methods for graffiti removal, prevention, and security.   Easy graffiti removal with anti-graffiti coating One of the most effective ways to prevent graffiti is by applying anti-graffiti coating. These coatings create a protective barrier on surfaces, making it easier to remove graffiti without damaging the material underneath. Nanotech anti-graffiti coating Nanotech anti-graffiti coating creates a thin, invisible surface that prevents graffiti from reaching the original surface, making it easy to clean. The beauty of this technology lies in its durability. Once applied, your building’s surfaces are protected for years to come. Many businesses in high-risk areas choose anti-graffiti coatings as a preventive measure because it’s easy to remove and significantly reduces long-term maintenance costs. Anti-graffiti paint Anti-graffiti paint is another powerful tool for protecting your building from vandalism. This specially formulated paint creates a smooth, non-porous surface that makes it difficult for graffiti to stick to, simplifying the removal process. Anti-graffiti paint is versatile and can be applied to a wide range of surfaces, including concrete, brick, metal, and wood. Once applied, any graffiti can be easily removed with soap, water, or a mild pressure wash, saving you both time and money on maintenance. Why not combine anti-graffiti coating with anti-graffiti paint? You’ll make it even easier to deal with any future graffiti incidents.   How to remove graffiti So your building has been vandalised—now what? The faster you act, the less likely vandals will return. Delays in removal can signal that your property is an easy target, inviting more vandalism and escalating the problem. We recommend hiring a professional graffiti removal service to ensure the job is done right. These services use advanced techniques and specialised products. Here’s how it typically works: Application of stripping gel: Professional graffiti removal companies use specially formulated stripping gel, which sticks to the surface without running like conventional paint stripper Blistering process: Once the stripping gel is applied, it causes the graffiti paint to soften and blister. This step is critical because it loosens the paint without damaging the surface underneath High-pressure cleaning: After the blistering occurs, professionals use high-pressure cleaning equipment to blast away the graffiti. This ensures all traces of paint are removed, restoring your building to its original condition Trying to remove graffiti on your own can lead to surface damage or incomplete cleaning, which is why professional services are the best option for maintaining the integrity of your property.   Tips for preventing graffiti vandalism Prevention is always better than cure. In addition to using anti-graffiti coatings and anti-graffiti paint, there are several other steps you can take to protect your commercial property from graffiti vandalism. Here are a few expert tips: 1. Install visible security cameras Security cameras can be a powerful deterrent. When vandals see that they’re being watched, they’re far less likely to target your property. Be sure to position cameras in areas prone to graffiti, such as large blank walls or secluded areas out of public view. 2. Improve lighting Vandals typically prefer to operate in darkness to avoid detection, so proper lighting can be a simple but effective way to protect your property. Installing bright lighting or motion-activated sensors around your building—especially in areas that are not visible from the street—can help deter graffiti vandals. 3. Install fences or barriers Physical barriers, such as fencing, can limit access to parts of your building that are frequently targeted by vandals. For example, placing fences, thorny bushes, or other physical barriers around large blank walls can make it more difficult for vandals to reach them. 4. Remove graffiti quickly As mentioned earlier, swift graffiti removal is essential. The longer graffiti stays on your property, the more it attracts additional vandalism. Prompt removal not only protects your property but also sends a clear message that graffiti won’t last long! 5. Hire professional graffiti removal service Graffiti removal is best left to professionals, especially when dealing with delicate surfaces or complex materials. Hiring a graffiti removal service ensures that your property will be cleaned quickly, efficiently, and without damage.   Protect your property Graffiti vandalism is an unfortunate reality for many commercial property owners, but by applying anti-graffiti paint, anti-graffiti coating, and enhancing security measures, you can protect your property and avoid costly repairs. Don’t let graffiti damage your business’s reputation—reach out to us today to safeguard your property for the long term.

The hidden costs of DIY pressure cleaning: What you’re not considering

You've heard the expression, "First impressions count." The exterior of your commercial property shapes company perception, so it's bad for business if it doesn't look its best. Perhaps you've noticed exterior surfaces like the pavers have accumulated dirt or concrete driveways are stained and think it's time to get around to exterior cleaning. It’s tempting to do the high-pressure cleaning yourself, believing it will save you money, but we’ve seen firsthand the risks and costly pitfalls of DIY jobs. From expensive hire prices to inconsistent cleaning jobs, all the way to severe property damage, the hidden costs of DIY outweigh the perceived savings. So, before forging ahead with DIY, consider these 6 hidden costs.   6 hidden costs of DIY high-pressure cleaning 1. Equipment and rental costs Let’s start with the equipment. High-quality pressure washers required for commercial-scale cleaning can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars. While cheaper options are available, they are often underpowered and end up being poor investments. What about renting? Rental fees for commercial-grade pressure washers often exceed $100 per day. Most commercial cleaning projects take several days so renting ends up costly. When you consider transport, set-up, and returning the equipment, a cost-effective option can become time-consuming and expensive. Why not make it easier? Outsourcing pressure cleaning to professional services gives you access to industrial-grade equipment without the upfront cost. You’re paying for efficiency and effectiveness, rather than trying to cut corners with less powerful equipment.   2. Maintenance and repair costs Okay, so you bought cleaning equipment. Now there is the issue of maintenance. Pressure washers require regular maintenance. Failure to maintain the machine can lead to costly repairs or even premature replacement. Servicing can be expensive. You must also account for wear and tear on accessories, such as hoses, nozzles, and brushes. Over time, these components degrade and need replacing, adding to your overall costs. When you hire a professional pressure cleaning service, you avoid the headaches of breakdowns, repairs, and replacements. Commercial pressure cleaning companies maintain their tools to ensure peak performance – so you don’t have to worry!   3. The risk of property damage So maybe you’re happy to invest in high-pressure cleaning equipment or to hire it. As handy as you think you are, DIY has costly risks. Pressure washers are powerful tools. Too much pressure while building washing can strip paint, crack tiles, or shatter windows. Certain surfaces, such as wood, stucco, or vinyl, require specific pressure settings and cleaning techniques. It’s easy to make a mistake, resulting in expensive repairs. Replacing damaged siding, repainting walls, or fixing cracked pavement can quickly inflate costs beyond what you initially budgeted. In the worst cases, property damage could even affect business operations, leading to loss of revenue. Trained professionals who understand how to clean different surfaces safely mitigate the risk of making a costly mistake. They check the material and condition of your property and use the right settings and cleaning agents so expensive damage doesn’t occur.   4. Time and labour costs DIY power washing is time-consuming. Beyond the actual cleaning, time is spent sourcing the equipment, learning how to use it properly, setting it up, and managing the clean-up afterwards. Pressure washing can take multiple hours or even days for larger properties. If you assign this task to one of your employees, you’re diverting them from their primary responsibilities. You may also need to invest time in training your staff to operate the equipment safely and effectively. Professional pressure cleaning services are trained to complete the job in a fraction of the time it would take an inexperienced user, freeing up your time and resources to focus on running your business.   5. Liability and safety risks Pressure cleaning may just look like a strong hose, but high-pressure water streams can cause severe injuries if mishandled. Operating heavy equipment on wet surfaces presents slip-and-fall risks as well. DIY pressure washing also exposes you to liabilities if an employee is injured while performing the task – not something you want to risk! Commercial pressure cleaning services carry the appropriate insurance and liability coverage, ensuring that you're not financially responsible in the unlikely event of an accident. Professionals also follow strict safety protocols, reducing the risk of injury and property damage.   6. Inconsistent results and rework Want high-level results? It’s difficult to achieve the same level of cleanliness as a commercial service, which is a shame, especially when you or your staff have taken time away from your primary job to clean. The lower the quality of cleaning, the sooner you will need to repeat the task, resulting in even more time and money wasted—not to mention all the added stress. Professional pressure washing services like Kleenit use the latest equipment to achieve high-quality results. They also use solutions and water-efficient techniques to minimise environmental impact. Their expertise ensures that every surface is cleaned thoroughly and evenly, reducing the need for frequent re-cleaning and helping maintain your property’s value over time.   High-pressure washing services While DIY pressure cleaning may seem cheaper in the short term, the hidden costs quickly add up. From equipment purchases and maintenance to the risk of property damage and safety concerns, there are numerous factors to consider. By opting for professional high-pressure cleaning, you can avoid these pitfalls and ensure that your property is cleaned efficiently, safely, and with long-lasting results. Investing in a commercial pressure cleaning service is about more than avoiding the hassle. It's about protecting your property, your employees, and your bottom line. Why we love epoxy flooring for commercial flooring

Why do we love epoxy flooring? Whether it’s a bustling warehouse, a sleek showroom, or a busy garage, epoxy floor coating offers a range of benefits that make it the top choice for many commercial and industrial spaces. Before we elaborate, let’s understand epoxy. Epoxy is a surface coating made from epoxy resin and hardening agents. It is applied over concrete floors to create a resilient surface that performs well under rigorous conditions common in commercial spaces. It also looks great! Epoxy flooring’s versatility makes it popular across various industries. Factories and warehouses often use floor coating to withstand heavy machinery and continuous traffic. Retail stores and showrooms appreciate its sleek, polished look. Hospitals and healthcare facilities benefit from its hygienic, easy-to-clean surface, which helps maintain a sterile environment. And car garages and service centres favour epoxy flooring for its resistance to oil, chemicals, and stains. So, now you know the basics, we’ll get into more details on the benefits.   Why is epoxy flooring a commercial building favourite? Epoxy flooring is incredibly durable Does your commercial space endure heavy traffic, machinery, and daily wear and tear? Warehouse and factory floor coating like epoxy will be your new best friend! Its hard, resilient surface can withstand the harshest conditions without showing signs of damage. This durability means less frequent repairs and replacements, saving businesses time and money. With proper maintenance, epoxy floors can last for decades, making them a wise, long-term investment.   Concrete epoxy can handle the pressure Epoxy flooring's ability to handle heavy loads and constant movement makes it ideal for industrial settings. Forklifts, heavy equipment, and continuous foot traffic can take a toll on ordinary floors, but epoxy flooring stands strong. This resilience under pressure ensures that your flooring remains intact and visually appealing, even in the most demanding environments.   Epoxy flooring is easy to clean and maintain One of the standout features of epoxy is how easy it is to maintain. The slick, non-porous surface resists dirt, dust, and spills. Regular sweeping and occasional mopping are sufficient to keep these floors pristine. This means less time and effort spent cleaning, so you can focus on other tasks. The resistance to stains and chemicals also means that epoxy floors can handle spills from oils, solvents, and other substances without permanent damage.   Epoxy flooring saves on maintenance costs Epoxy flooring's low maintenance nature translates into significant cost savings over time. Businesses can reduce their cleaning and maintenance budgets by reallocating those resources to other critical areas. The ease of maintenance also means that these floors stay in top condition, projecting a clean and professional image to clients and visitors.   Improves the look of commercial spaces Epoxy flake flooring instantly lifts the look of a commercial space. With a wide range of colours, patterns, and finishes—including metallic, flake, and solid colour options—epoxy flooring can be customised to match branding or design preferences. Logos, company colours, and unique patterns can be embedded into the floor, creating a cohesive, branded environment that impresses clients and motivates employees. The glossy finish adds a polished, high-end look that enhances the overall aesthetic of any commercial space.   Creating a safer workspace Safety is paramount in commercial and industrial settings, and epoxy flooring addresses this. Non-slip flooring options include slip-resistant additives that provide better traction, reducing the risk of slips and falls. This is particularly important in moist areas, such as kitchens and restrooms. Epoxy floors are also resistant to fire, heat, and electrical hazards, providing extra safety for employees and customers. The enhanced traction and resistance to hazards mean fewer accidents and a safer environment for everyone.   Epoxy flooring cost and availability Compared to other options, epoxy flooring costs are relatively low, especially considering its longevity and durability. Businesses looking for budget-friendly solutions will find it to be a wise investment. If you're searching for "epoxy flooring near me" or "epoxy flooring companies near me," you'll find numerous providers offering competitive prices and expert installation services. These local companies can provide tailored solutions that meet the specific needs of your commercial space. If you’re ready to enhance your commercial space, consider investing in epoxy flooring. This decision will pay off in terms of longevity, appearance, and overall performance.   Ready to invest in the best commercial flooring. Get a free quote.

5 reasons to hire a high-pressure cleaning professional

Thinking about high-pressure cleaning your bricks, driveway, or concrete? It’s certainly a good idea to be proactive about washing exterior surfaces. Not only will cleaning improve the look of your assets, but you will also reduce the likelihood of costly repairs and replacements in the future. Thinking of tackling pressure washing yourself? Although DIY can often be associated with lower costs, hiring a professional high-pressure cleaner is better value for money in the long run and provides other benefits. This month, we give you five benefits for hiring a professional.   5 reasons to hire a high-pressure cleaning professional 1. High-pressure cleaning saves you money in the long run If you’re thinking of pressure cleaning yourself, you must hire a machine (we assume you don’t have a high-pressure cleaner sitting around your garage). Hiring a basic DIY machine will likely set you back at least $70 a day, and depending on the surface—brick, concrete, tile, or wood—you may require special chemicals. When you hire a professional, the machine, chemicals, special attachments, and time spent on labour are all included in the price. It may seem more expensive up front, but when you count all the bits and bobs you need, professional cleaning is cheaper in the long run. That’s not even counting the time you save researching and getting the job done (more on this in point 2). You also avoid the cost of fixing damage caused by dirt build-up and erosion.   2. Professional pressure washing saves you time High-pressure cleaning can be time-consuming, especially for larger areas or heavily soiled surfaces. Without the right tools or detergents, a single square metre can take multiple passes with a pressure cleaning wand, which means you could spend days cleaning to get the desired effect. That’s not even considering stubborn stains like grease (best to get professional paver cleaning in this instance) or oil on driveways (this is where oil stain removal comes in). Time is our most precious commodity—we’re all short of it—so when DIY pressure washing can be a several-day affair, you may think twice about embarking on the task yourself. High-pressure cleaning professionals complete the job quickly and efficiently. That means you get the satisfaction of a job well done without wasting your own time. You’re free to spend the time doing something more important.   3. Professional pressure washing services get better results When you’re getting a job done, you want it done well. Professional pressure cleaning companies have trained and experienced technicians who know how to clean different surfaces and tackle various stains. They understand the appropriate pressure and chemicals to use on various materials, ensuring that surfaces are cleaned thoroughly without causing damage. Professional pressure washing uses commercial-grade equipment that is more powerful and efficient than a DIY pressure washer. The Bar or Spitwater—the recommended machines used by Kleenit—can output 5000 psi. This powerful machine can tackle even the toughest stains and grime, which might be challenging with standard equipment. Will you get the same sense of relief if you do it DIY? Or will you wonder if you did a good enough job?   4. Clean exteriors increase asset value Want to improve the look of your property? Professional pressure washing services, like building washing, often produce results that are superior to those achieved through DIY efforts. Professionals have the skills and equipment to clean deeply, restoring surfaces to their original condition. Investing in exterior house cleaning can increase your home's market value. Maintaining a clean and professional appearance for commercial properties is essential for attracting customers and clients. A well-maintained exterior reflects positively on your business, creating a welcoming environment that can boost foot traffic and sales. Regular high-pressure washing can also extend the lifespan of building materials by removing harmful substances like mould, mildew, and algae, which can cause deterioration over time. This proactive maintenance can reduce repair costs and prolong the life of your assets, providing long-term financial benefits   5. Safer and more sustainable Pressure cleaning can be hazardous if not done correctly. The powerful water jets can cause injuries if mishandled, and using ladders or scaffolding to reach high areas is risky. Professionals are trained in safety protocols and have the necessary protective gear to perform the job safely. By hiring a professional service, you can avoid the potential dangers associated with DIY high-pressure cleaning. Many professional pressure washing companies are committed to using environmentally friendly practices. They employ biodegradable cleaning solutions and water-efficient techniques to minimise environmental impact. Professionals also know how to handle and dispose of wastewater properly, ensuring no harmful substances enter the local ecosystem. Professional cleaning is the best option for maintaining the beauty and longevity of your surfaces, from saving time and money to achieving superior results, increasing asset value, and ensuring safety.   Book your high-pressure cleaning service today. flakes

Bring the outside in with epoxy flake flooring

If you’re an avid fan of home renovation shows like The Block, or have looked at an interior design blog or Pinterest board lately, you would have noticed the meteoric rise of natural flooring materials being used inside homes and businesses. Textures like stone, marble, concrete, and brick are being utilised more and more to bring a sense of the outside in, and to elevate a sense of earthy calm into a space. We love this trend – and think it looks great when done right. But not all spaces (and budgets) are made equal. That’s where epoxy flake flooring could be the solution for you. It’s the perfect way to class up concrete, without breaking the budget. But you might be asking, ‘what on earth is flake flooring’? Well quite simply, it’s epoxy flooring laid on top of concrete, with decorative vinyl flakes added to create a textured look. This method is gaining popularity as a stylish, durable and statement-making floor covering. How the flakes are broadcast (or dispersed) can also drastically change the appearance of the flooring. With a range of epoxy colours and flake sizes, you can emulate the designer looks of any surface, from a terrazzo floor to a polished stone look and even certain marbles.   Where are the best locations for flake flooring? With all the flake and colour combinations available, the potential applications for flake flooring are virtually endless. Here are some of the kinds of spaces that we’ve helped our customers transform: Wet areas Flake flooring is a great solution for those wanting a cost-effective polished stone look in the bathroom, kitchen or laundry. With non-slip protective coatings available, it’s a safe and stylish option for these wet areas. Living areas With amazing looks replicating stone and marble, flake flooring is on the rise as a way to bring living areas to life. No wonder, either – being stain and scuff resistant makes it an easy choice for the room that gets the most wear and tear in a home! Retail & business Flake flooring also looks fantastic in retail spaces where you need a hard-wearing, easy-to-clean, anti-slip floor that will give your customers a sense of the outside being brought inside. This treatment is popular among restaurants, cafés, and retail shops. Another bonus is that it can be colour-matched to suit any theme. Schools High foot traffic areas like school common areas, classrooms, and gymnasiums are ideal locations for flake flooring. Its ability to withstand constant use, coupled with being easy to clean and the option to add non-slip protection make it perfect for the school environment. Garages and warehouses An epoxy garage floor or warehouse floor with flakes will make any room feel more like a showroom! Being chip, spill and stain resistant also makes it an ideal solution for these prone areas. Plus, its flaked texture masks dirt and dust that much better than plain concrete. Outside the home or office While it’s popular for interior spaces, epoxy flake flooring can also transform outside the home or workplace too. Instead of forking out for expensive pavers that can crack, flake flooring is commonly used to liven up patios, driveways, alfresco areas and walkways.   How is it installed? Installing an epoxy flake floor with a specialist like Kleenit can radically transform the look of a room or exterior. All the while, it will create a scratch-resistant, easy-to-clean surface that is chemical and stain resistant, and will last for many years to come. Installing the flooring involves the application of epoxy paints, and broadcasting vinyl chips to create a decorative finish. 1. Preparation It’s vital that the concrete is prepared correctly. This is to ensure proper penetration and bonding of the epoxy paints. There are no shortcuts here – the longevity and quality of the finished floor would be compromised otherwise. 2. Primer/sealer coat Once the concrete is prepared, an epoxy primer and sealer is applied to ensure an effective bond with the surface. 3. Epoxy Coat A coat of two-pack tinted epoxy paint is then applied on top of the primer coat. The two products bond together. 4. Flake broadcasting Coloured flakes are broadcast (or distributed) onto the epoxy layer to create the decorative flake effect. 5. Polyurethane clear top coat Finally, two coats of a clear, two-pack polyurethane paint are applied to give a high gloss, hard wearing, and scratch-resistant finish.   How do I look after flake flooring? While epoxy flake flooring is heavy duty and incredibly durable, like all floors, nothing can stay perfect forever. However, looking after it will go a long way to increasing its lifespan. When treated with care, you can expect a flake floor to last you a good 20 or more years. Want to know what steps to take to care for your flake flooring? Well, since it’s made with practically the same materials and finish as epoxy flooring, you can find a post we’ve previously made on the topic here.   How much does it costs? Unfortunately, there’s no easy answer to how much an epoxy flake floor costs. The final price of the project will depend on factors such as the surface area, the condition of the concrete, the type of flake finish you want, and whether anti-slip protection is applied. Rest assured though that it is one of the most cost-effective ways for you to treat your floor.   Contact a Kleenit advisor to get a free quote for your epoxy flake flooring.

Transform your garage into a gym with epoxy flooring

During COVID, working out at home became a necessity. We did yoga in the loungeroom, jumped rope in the backyard, and smashed Ninja workouts on YouTube. We got imaginative because we didn’t have a choice.  Now, as we’re back to normal (relatively), we can all return to group classes and public gyms. But, despite being able to reactivate our memberships, many people are choosing to continue to exercise at home. And why not? There are many benefits, including convenience, time, and privacy.  Benefits of working out at home:  Convenience: You roll out of bed and hit the weights without having to muster up the energy to get in your car and drive.  Financial: Gym memberships are expensive. Working out at home saves you thousands of dollars every year.  Time: Time is a commodity. Quick lunch workout? You’ll be done in 30. We all could use more time, and exercising in your own space will save you a lot.  Privacy: Some people love the camaraderie of working out with others, but others prefer privacy.     As many benefits there are to work outing at home, there are also downfalls, and space is one of them. If you want to lift weights, where do you store them? What about your exercise bike? Will it annoy the family in the lounge room? And forget about a bench press! You need a designated space to work out.  Our clients are installing garage gyms with the help of epoxy flooring. Epoxy will convert any garage into a full-fledged gym that even your mates will want to train in.  Here, we go through the benefits of epoxy floors and give you some installation tips.    Benefits of epoxy flooring in garage gyms    Epoxy floors will motivate you to workout  Some like the grunginess of basement boxing and industrial garages – perhaps because they emulate Fight Club (we love that movie!). But we find most people are more motivated by clean environments. Epoxy flooring will instantly lift the look of your garage by creating a smooth, shiny finish, which looks way more appealing than grotty oil-stained cement. You can even colourise epoxy to complement your equipment and add line marking to zone exercise areas.  Epoxy floors are durable and resilient against impact  If you’re planning on decking out your garage gym with heavy equipment, you’ll need a epoxy concrete floor that will stand up to serious impact. Unfortunately, the concrete floor will likely crack and chip with jerking movement, which will be costly to repair and won’t bode well for your safety (nobody wants to risk doing aerobics on a chipped floor). Epoxy floors protect concrete by coating it with epoxy resin, which hardens and seals. It’s also oil and chemical resistant, so if you can park your car in your garage, you won’t need to worry about oil stains!  Epoxy is easy to clean and maintain  Epoxy flooring is a popular gym option because it’s easy to clean and maintain. Epoxy is non-porous, unlike concrete, which doesn’t absorb spills. So when you do spill your favourite workout drink, you can just wipe it up! How do you thoroughly clean? A quick vacuum and mop will make your gym sparkling again. And the cleaner your gym, the more inspired you will be to work out. We give you more tips for maintaining epoxy floor here.    How do you install epoxy flooring? 1. Prepare concrete  The success of your epoxy flooring has a lot to do with how well you prepare. First, you need to clean and degrease the concrete and chip away any protruding bits to ensure the epoxy will stick to the concrete and leave a smooth finish.  Scrape protruding cement: Scrape hard cement with a shovel and scrub with a hard brush to smooth the floor.  Pressure clean: You will need to concrete clean the floor with a pressure hose or clean it with a power scrubber. Acid wash: Once you have cleaned the floor, we recommend scrubbing with hydraulic acid. Rinse with hose. Don’t forget your safety gear! 2. Apply primer  Tape up the edges of the floor to protect the wall. Before you get into the epoxy, you must ensure it bonds with the concrete. This is where primer comes in. Follow the instructions on your primer.  3. Roll on epoxy paint  Next, mix the epoxy depending on the instructions. You can then apply the epoxy with a paint roller. Again, refer to the instructions for your epoxy.  4. Apply flakes if desired  If you’re after flake flooring, you can sprinkle flakes on the surface as you paint the epoxy on the cement. We recommend sprinkling the flakes once you have painted 1m2 of the floor.  5. Non-slip flooring  If you want non-slip flooring, which may be a good idea if you will be jumping around in your gym, now is the time. Apply the second coat like you did the first.  DIY epoxy flooring can be labour-intensive and take a few days to complete. We recommend hiring a professional to ensure your epoxy is applied correctly and will last as long as possible.    Chat with Kleenit about epoxy for your gym. Get in touch.

Warehouse floor coating: How to maintain your epoxy floor

Have you invested in epoxy floor coating? Good move. Epoxy is the ultimate protection. It shields against liquid spills and stays strong under heavy weights – precisely what you want on a busy industrial floor. And if you've opted for non-slip flooring, you're also prioritising safety, which we can certainly get behind! We know maintenance can be a headache. Some people take the 'ignorance is bliss' approach and avoid action unless confronted with a problem. Unfortunately, ignorance only gets you so far. Sooner or later, a crisis will occur and will probably be costly. It pays (literally) to keep your warehouse in good knick.  As durable as epoxy flooring is – and it's heavy-duty – like most things in the warehouse, it requires maintenance. If you invest in proper maintenance, it will last up to 20 or more years, so you won't have to find money in the budget to re-do it later.  Here are some tips for caring for your epoxy floors and flake flooring.   How to care for epoxy flooring    Keep floors grit, sand and dirt free Think because epoxy floors are easy to maintain you can get a little lax with cleaning? Warehouse floor coating is strong, but it’s not magical! Dirt can scratch over time, which can worsen with machinery moving it around. We recommend spot cleaning by sweeping or vacuuming dirt off the floor as soon as it spills or keeping up a schedule to avoid build-up.  Protect warehouse floor coating with mats Epoxy floor paint is designed to withstand the weight of heavy-duty equipment, such as as forklifts, high-density shelving and conveyors. But cracks, scuffs and pits do happen, especially in action-packed industrial settings. Once cracked, epoxy concrete floors can begin to flake, and this may result in it needing to be replaced. Protect your warehouse floor coating with rubber mats or pads where heavy equipment is used and stored.  Clean chemical spills immediately  Yes, epoxy flooring is chemical-resistant, but if you leave spills for too long, they can break down the gloss. Chemicals can include anything from all-purpose cleaners and paint to battery acid. When a spill occurs, soak up the chemical with a cloth or paper towel and then a wet cloth to wipe the floor. You may also need to neutralise the chemical with an acid or alkali-neutralising powder. Once the powder is absorbed, sweep or vacuum it up then mop the area.  Schedule regular and deep cleans  Remember when we mentioned maintenance? Cleaning is a big part of it. It's best if you clean epoxy concrete floors regularly. The frequency will depend on your warehouse. At least once a week is recommended. If you work as a mechanic, you may need to clean daily to ensure all oil, grease and chemicals aren't left on the floor. We recommend scheduling deep cleans at least once every three months, where you move machinery, shelving and tools to clean under them. High pressure cleaning works well for deep cleaning epoxy flooring.     How to clean warehouse floor coating   Clear debris  As we mentioned earlier, all debris must be cleared off the floor, especially before washing it, to avoid scratching. You can use a broom to sweep up dirt or a vacuum with a soft brush attachment to prevent damage.    Wash with ammonia  You must avoid harsh chemicals, citrus and vinegar when cleaning. These liquids will break down the polish of the epoxy floor painting. Instead, we recommend mixing ammonia with hot water (refer to instructions) and mopping with a flat mop to avoid unsightly streaks.  Scrub tough stains   Have you noticed tough stains? You can use a soft deck brush to scrub these out. Avoid scourers or hard bristles, as these will scratch the epoxy. If stains don't lift with water and ammonia, you can try a degreaser for grease marks or a concentrated cleaner (ensure it's okay for epoxy).  Rinse and dry the floor  Now's time to wash the cleaning solution off the epoxy flooring or flake flooring. You can hose the floor down or mop the solution with hot water. We recommend drying the floor with a towel.    Epoxy flooring and epoxy flake floor coating stand up to harsh conditions, but maintenance will help to minimise damage and make it last for years.    Is it time to give your warehouse floor coating a deep clean?
