Covid-19 Cleaning in 2022

Office covid-19 special cleaning April 28, 2022

We wouldn’t think that a quarter of a way into 2022, we would still be thinking about Covid-19, but here we are. The only difference is that now Australia is moving toward living with the virus rather than actively delaying the spread. We’re now coming to terms with precisely what this means.

95% of adults are now fully vaccinated, so the Government is lifting restrictions and emergency measures such as lockdowns and international travel. But we’re not in the clear yet. There are 1,641 Covid hospital cases in New South Wales, 578 in Queensland, and 248 in Western Australia (As of 22 April 2022).

We’re also heading into flu season. The Government is investing $2.1 billion to protect us against COVID-19, focusing on resources for people with severe illness and support for the economy over winter.

As an employer, you are responsible for minimising the risk of Covid-19 for employees with Covid cleaning. The Omnicron variant is now well and truly present in Australia, so keeping your workplace clean is imperative.

So with winter in mind, how clean is your office? Are you staying on top of disinfection to protect your staff from the Covid-19?

Covid-19 cleaning or DIY disinfectant cleaning

The easing of restrictions has meant that workplaces have had to be even more vigilant with cleaning, investing in special cleaning services to avoid losing their entire workforce to the virus.

How you clean your workplace will depend on the type of work you do and the premises in which you operate. Consider what surfaces you have in the office and how often surfaces are touched (the more people who touch surfaces, the higher the risk of spread).

Common office surfaces that will need to be cleaned:

  • Tables, chairs, counters
  • Frequently touched surfaces – door handles, light switches, keypads, lift buttons
  • Computer stations, printers, phones
  • Meeting room surfaces
  • Public toilets and bathrooms – floors, doors, cistern pans and seats, sinks and tapware, paper towel dispensers and air dryers.

Tips for DIY disinfectant cleaning:

  • Prioritise deep cleaning high-frequented areas and frequently touched surfaces daily
  • Use disinfectant to kill bacteria on surfaces
  • Promote proper hygiene – washing hands with soap and water and drying with disposable paper or single-use cloth or towel
  • Provide adequate alcohol-based sanitiser for staff and customers/clients
  • Make sure cleaning sure are well-versed in cleaning for Covid-19, and they’re using high-grade chemicals
  • Ensure cleaners or staff protect themselves from harsh chemicals – wear gloves and eyewear.

When do you need to book Covid-19 cleaning services?

Covid-19 cleaning is required if your office or workplace has had a confirmed case of COVID-19 infection. We recommend booking a specialist cleaner to be sure you remove biohazards before your staff re-enter the workplace.

Specialist cleaning can be a preventive measure. You can book disinfection services daily, weekly, forthrightly or monthly – whenever you need it.
